Unreal Engine 4.1: Linux support!!

We are pretty surprised and excited about the latest Unreal Engine 4.1 update, which is set for release later this month. The developers of the impressive engine added support for Linux!!

Folks have been asking about our early Linux efforts and support for Valve’s SteamOS and Steam Machines. We have good news for you! The 4.1 source code has initial support for running and packaging games for Linux and SteamOS. We love Linux!

The possibilities for the UE4 are endless and a little more advanced compared to Unity3D. To get an impression here is the engine’s showcase.

Epic Games has announced that its Unreal Engine 4 is now available as part of a subscription. For $19 a month game developers get access to all the tools.

Not too long ago Mozilla and Epic showed of an impressive web-based implementation of the engine.

SteamOS/Linux is now availabel

NEW! STEAMOS/LINUX SUPPORT

  • You can now package your games and deploy to SteamOS and Linux!
  • Note: For now, you’ll need to grab the source code to compile and test on Linux
