Somewhere this week, an update to play Team Fortress 2 with the Oculus Rift will be released. Those who supported the Kickstarter campaign, get an in-game glasses to use with TF2. This comfirms the leaked news about Valve working on support for the Oculus Rift.
Oculus VR, the team behind the Rift Oculus announced that ‘Team Fortress 2′ can be played in VR mode later this week. In this mode, the game can be played with the VR headset. Valve also gives a virtual variant away from the headset.
In January the news leaked out that Valve’s ‘Team Fortress 2′ would fit the Oculus Rift.
The program was announced on the Game Developers Conference in late March in San Francisco. The program includes a reading of Valves Joe Ludwig under the revealing title: “What we have learned from porting Team Fortress 2 to virtual reality“.
Ludwig: We’re friends. They help us out with hardware and we help them out with software
Valve is also planning on sharing what they learned bringing TF2 to VR in two GDC talks:
- Why Virtual Reality is Hard (And Where it Might be Going) presented by Michael Abrash.
- What We Learned Porting Team Fortress 2 to Virtual Reality presented by Joe Ludwig.
I cannot find any comments or information if the Oculus-VR will be usable on the linux client of ‘Team Fortress 2′.
