After two years in Beta for Windows, the most popular game currently on Steam, Dota 2, is now in its initial testing stages for Linux and Mac OS X. Valve officially ended the Dota 2 beta earlier this week with a blog post. Valve developer Zoid, blessed us with the news at dev.dota2.com explaining the “Dota 2 Test” client is still in early stages and will be buggy.
Please note that Dota 2 Linux is still in testing and only available on Dota 2 Test. We’re looking for early testing and feedback from users before we ship Linux support on the main Dota 2 release client. Your feedback and bug reports will directly help us improve Dota 2 on Linux.
This means a lot of gaming on Linux, especially since Dota 2 has such a huge following. As of my writing Dota 2 has 320,000 people playing. Head over to the Dota 2 Test Community Hub on Steam to get started.
