Samsung is focusing on innovation and potential start-ups from Silicon Valley, particularly in gaming, mobile search, social media and mapping-related services, according to employees and an internal document reviewed by the WSJ.
The information is from a presentation prepared by Samsung Media Solution Center about mergers and acquisitions in February. The document lays out the company’s rationale for bulking up and lists potential acquisition- and investment targets.
The Unity-platform is a huge contribution in the acceptance of Linux as a gaming platform for both gamers and developers. Thanks to Unity3D we can now enjoy games like Forced, War for the Overworld, Anomaly, Interstellar Marines etc. etc.
We asked Unity and Samsung about the rumors, but no comment is given.
The Samsung Developers Conference is just around the corner – October 27th-29th, 2013. Also Tizen, the open source, standards-based software platform (e.g. smartphones, tablets, TVs, netbooks) is supported by Samsung. Remember Samsung Media Solution Center prepared the presentation, the department responsible for software innovation.
Based on the list and current events I can only guess about Samsung’s intentions;
- Gaming platform or social-something
- Tizen, innovation and content
- Revenue, a driven start-up just might be next facebook
- Big news, to be announced SDC
