Ultimoore here with with news about a game I had recently started to follow and looked very interesting. well the guys and gals at Smash Games have begun to bring Magicite to the next level, Kickstarter. For those of you who are not familiar, Magicite is an epic 2D RPG game that you can play single player or with your friends. Venture out into randomized instances and get loot and materials to craft new armour and weapons. But be careful, as perma-death is a huge part of the game.
Players will create characters with randomly generated stats, traits, and appearances. These characters will go on to explore randomized instances to collect resources, battle enemies, and level up to acquire new skills! After each instance, players and their party will stumble upon randomly generated towns filled with various NPCs that offer unique and helpful services. Here is where you sell your loot, craft gear, and prepare your party for the next dangerous adventure.
Also Smash Games states on their IndieDB page what games majorly influenced Magicite.
Monster Hunter Series – I absolutely love how I found myself spending hours just collecting materials and resources to craft armor and weapons and stuff. Oh also I want to recreate the sense of helplessness you get when a GIANT MONSTER emerges and you and your buddies freak out. But this time there is permanent death!
Minecraft(Hardcore Mode) – Speaking of permanent death, this is the only way my friends and I play minecraft now a days. But I realized the most enjoyable part was the beginning when we all start out with nothing and we’re just exploring and struggling to survive. I wanted to capture that first couple of hours of hardcore mode and turn it into a game. There are no blocks for building, though. I decided to put more emphasis on survival, crafting, and combat.
The Binding of Isaac – Such a simple yet terrifyingly addicting game has created a wave of new takes on the genre “Rogue-like”. I know true fans of the genre don’t like that word being tossed around, but Magicite does heavily rely on permadeath and randomization. I guess it’s a rogue-like-like.
Tigsource Forums – There are so many impeccable art styles I have seen that other indie devs have created, and I can only hope that mine can compete. I’ve practised my pixel art skills for so long and I really hope that Magicite is aesthetically pleasing!
The Kickstarter launched on Oct 9th 2013. The campaign itself is almost funded as the goal was a small 1,000$ But the team is focused on getting the Stretch Goals met. here is a list of the Stretch goals as of Oct 10 2013.
I checked it out and I am going to toss come coinage on the project tonight. It look very interesting It almost kind of reminds me of Terraria but more features. Check them out and if you got some extra coinage toss it their way. Until later, Game on.
