Deadfall Adventures enters Linux Beta

How the Linux adventure has begun.

Earlier today MegalomaniacNG (Steam ID) the executive producer at Nordic games posted a topic on the Deadfall Adventures Steam community forums.

Deadfall Adventures Linux Beta Release

All customers of Deadfall Adventures should now have access to the Linux depot. This is not a beta version since we need especially feedback on a wide variety of hardware configurations.
We are actively monitoring feedback and will provide if possible regular updates.

Here is a list of known issues:

Please note that these issues are temporary and being worked upon!

* Loading indicator (spinner) does not show.
This means the game will not always give you visual feedback that it is
still working behind the scenes. We appreciate your patience!
* The game is playable, but may stutter with AMD’s Catalyst (fglrx) drivers.
This is due to workaround for a bug in the driver. AMD engineers are
working to fix it.
* The game is memory-heavy and can be somewhat unstable on Intel HD graphics.
* Loading times are slow because of shader compilations.
* Game controllers have no force feedback.
* There are graphical corruptions in the menu level.
* On some combinations of hardware, drivers and graphics settings levels there
may be more graphical corruptions.
Should this happen, please try playing around with the video options.
* Game is not network-compatible with the Windows version yet.
* Anti-aliasing does not work.

Have fun!

They wear a Tux on their sleeve.

Now Nordic is known for bringing a number of games to Linux. A personal favourite is the Book of Unwritten tales.Nordic in my experience has not done a bad port mind you the only games I own from them are Point and click adventures. • The Book of Unwritten Tales: The Critter Chronicles
  • MX vs. ATV Supercross

What is Deafall Adventures?

Really?! Well I guess I should do my job and tell you.You know what Ill let Nordic Games tell you.

Deadfall Adventures is an action-driven first-person shooter, spiced up with elements from action-adventure games. Become an adventurer, hunt for treasures, explore unknown regions of the world and rescue the damsel in distress from the clutches of enemies, both earthly and not-so-earthly. Join James Lee Quatermain on his journey across the globe!

But I am all about a good storyline.Deadfall Adventures sounds like a pretty slick story and I can’t wait to try it out. Give this Plot a little read and tell me you don’t want to play this.

The year is 1938. James Lee Quatermain is a man of many talents, yet holding on to money isn’t one of them. James is an adventurer by trade, just like his legendary great-grandfather Allan Quatermain. And he knows how to squeeze money out of this famous name of his, while at the same time despising it. Despising those who believe his great-grandfather’s tales of the supernatural and those who make fun of them alike.

Accordingly, Quatermain isn’t all too keen on escorting Jennifer Goodwin, an US agent and former colleague of his, to an Egyptian temple structure in order to retrieve an ancient artifact – The Heart of Atlantis. Neither does he believe in the reputed invigorating qualities of this artifact, nor does he care the least that a division of the Ahnenerbe, the Nazi department specialized in the occult, is after The Heart as well.

But life has its ways of changing one’s perspective. Quatermain soon finds himself part of a hunt across the globe – from the stormy deserts of Egypt to the icy depths of the Arctic, and all the way to the steaming jungles of Guatemala. In long forgotten temple structures the thrill of the chase awakens the true adventurer in Quatermain, as he and agent Goodwin strive to be one step ahead of the Nazis and the Russians, one step closer to obtaining the Heart of Atlantis. And deep in these temples, where age-old guardians awake from their eternal slumber, James soon learns that his great-grandfather’s stories are not as crazy as he had always believed. For all things live forever, though at times they sleep and are forgotten…

Do you care what I think?

Is this game worth checking out? Heck yeah. Should I wait until it is released to buy it? That is completely on you I am not your father nor do I want to be. But this game looks great and I am very excited for it to more high quality game like Deadfall Adventures come to Linux and I bet we will see a few HQ games come to Linux in 2014. So if you still got money to burn from the holidays check out Deadfall Adventures on Steam.

your write up just made me buy the game AND the fact that I picked up Painkiller Hell & Damnation recently which I am really enjoying since the developers released a patch that fixes an issue if you’re using fglrx but the real fix is suppose to be released soon by AMD. Their drivers need correcting apparently so the shaders work correctly in PKHD.
