GOG.com had planned to introduce Linux support to its catalog. Now GoG.com released a small batch of Linux compatible games. To celebrate current developments and progress the games are introduced to the public with an additional discount fee. The promotion ends in 4 days (and counting).

Official announcement:  GOG.com launches Linux support! 50+ games available, tarballs provided, Ubuntu & Mint supported. 29 Linux games up to 75% off until Tuesday, 9:59AM GMT.

Some games can run on Linux but aren’t supported by GoG.com (yet). You may find additional support for your (classic)games using GogOnLinux.

  1. Most of these are not Linux games. Read the minimum requirements to see which ones are actually Windows games with 320mb per game of support files to hackforce them to run on Linux.
Most of the rest are DOS game. Each with its own individual DOSBox rather than using the one you have already installed (doesn’t even use the same one provided by GOG).

  2. UPDATE: There’s a good thing though. I purchased Sid Meier’s Colonization. It has a tarball download option under the “Linux” download. It is possible to extract only the game; no need to do a GOG install. This is great for engine remakes and having only 1 DOSBox installation (rather than multiple DOSBoxes for every GOG game). Also, this is great for other systems as well Android, FreeDOS, Amiga, Windows, MAC, and Wii users can extract just-the-game from the Tarball.
