“War Thunder” Is Now Available On Linux

No more World of Tanks running sub par in WINE for me, War Thunder here I come!

We’re happy to announce today that War Thunder is now available for Linux users.

War Thunder is a next generation MMO combat game involving WWII and Korean War era, military aviation, armoured vehicles, and fleets. It is one I’ve been waiting for and really looking looking forward to playing on Linux. So when I got the email this morning it was one of those moments when you go from one eye open, barely awake, to eyes wide open, leaping out of bed to start the download. You can now download the Linux version of War Thunder from the official site and I’m sure the Steam version will be available very soon.

Please note that only 64-bit systems are supported. Linux-version for Steam will be released later. We’ll appreciate your feedback on our forums. You can find answers for most frequently asked question in the War Thunder version for Linux section of the FAQ.

War Thunder offers a highly detailed and personalized Military aviation and land battle experience, giving players access to hundreds of models of aircraft with detailed cockpits, ground vehicles with awesome firepower, dozens of upgradeable weapons and flying and driving skills that can be honed and improved with each mission. Thanks to the game’s painstaking attention to detail, you’ll truly feel like a World War II warrior in the air and on land as you plunge into battle.

The genuine World War II experience isn’t limited to the skies. The massive historical battles featured in War Thunder cannot be fought by aviation alone, so the game will also expose players to combat on land and at sea.
Features include:

  • Varied PvP-experiences set in full-scale combat missions.
  • Multiple settings and options allow advanced virtual pilots, tankers and beginners to enjoy playing the game together.
  • Rich PvE content: dynamic campaigns, solo missions, mission editor, and much more for single-player and cooperative gameplay.
  • Impressive diversity includes detailed models of aircraft and their cockpits, ground vehicles and naval units.
  • Astonishing graphics, authentic sound effects, and beautiful music

I love all things Linux, my favorite distro being Ubuntu followed closely by Kubuntu and Linux Mint (Cinnamon and KDE). As far as I'm concerned Linux is the future of gaming. Lets make the world as open and transparent as we can!
