“This War Of Mine” Available On Steam

Another very interesting and different title just released on Steam for Linux, experience war from the other side in “This War of Mine”!

We might not yet have all the triple A titles or MMORPGS we’d like but where Linux gaming is coming into its own is in the Indie world. Over the past year we have seen the release of some very interesting and different titles that have helped our platform to shine. Today is definitely no exception as one of the most interesting games to release in a very long time hits our screens.

At night you get a chance to scavenge nearby locations for items that will help you stay alive.

This War of Mine takes a very different approach to war gaming. Instead of running around making impressive explosions and sticking your boot in the groin of the enemy combatant, you find yourself taking on the role of a civilian caught in the terrifying reality of a city under siege searching for food and medical supplies. Instead of searching for the next high calibre ammo pack while at the same time making an incredibly slick but nauseatingly macho remark you are avoiding the ever present risk of a sniper’s bullet. This is not a game about heroic victory, noble conquest or power politics, it’s a game about a community trying to survive under terrifying conditions and brings home the reality and not the fiction of war.

Make life-and-death decisions driven by your conscience. Try to protect everybody from your shelter or sacrifice some of them to endure the hardships. During war, there are no good or bad decisions; there is only survival. The sooner you realize that, the better.

Linux advocate, born in Liverpool, grew up in Cork City Ireland and currently living in Corvallis, Oregon. I love all things Linux, my favorite distro being Ubuntu followed closely by Kubuntu and Linux Mint (Cinnamon and KDE). As far as I'm concerned Linux is the future of gaming. Lets make the world as open and transparent as we can!
