Bypass Steam Linux Beta Invitations

steam looks nice

Some people at reddit figured out how to run steam without the need of a beta account!

Basicly its a loophole and not a hack. However this work-aground is in violation with Valve’s Terms of Service!

We recommend you to use a 2nd steam account.
steam.deb (~1.2mb +  ~102mb)

From Terminal:

  1. wget http://media.steampowered.com/client/installer/steam.deb
  2. sudo dpkg -i steam.deb && sudo apt-get install -f

Then From Unity Dash:

  1. Launch Steam App
  2. Login to Steam
  3. You will get a message saying you aren’t in Beta.
  4. Close window

From Terminal:

  • run steam steam://open/games

If you are on amd64 architecture then you will also need to run from terminal:

sudo apt-get install libjpeg-turbo8:i386 libcurl3gnutls:i386 libogg0:i386 libpixman-1-0:i386 libsdl1.2debian:i386 libtheora0:i386 libvorbis0a:i386 libvorbisenc2:i386 libvorbisfile3:i386 libasound2:i386 libc6:i386 libgcc1:i386 libstdc++6:i386 libx11-6:i386 libxau6:i386 libxcb1:i386 libxdmcp6:i386
