TF2 released and compared with WIN8 vs Ubuntu

Steam on linux is a hot topic. And it got even hotter! Today, Valve released TeamFortress2 to the public. You can even use TF2 if you havn’t received a steam beta invite using the workaround!

 

d3barbie over at reddit made a nice performance comparison between Win8 and Ubuntu running TeamFortress-2

  • CPU: Intel i5 2500k (3.3ghz)
  • GFX: EVGA GTX 580
  • HD: OCZ Vertex 2 SSD
  • MB: MSI P67A-GD55
  • RAM: 8GB DDR3
  • Windows: Windows 8 Pro (64 Bit) fully updated. (NVIDIA 306.97)
  • Linux: Ubuntu 12.04 (32 bit, kernel: 3.5.0-18) fully updated. (NVIDIA 310.19)

Conclusion; the performance between both systems isn’t far off. However the game does perform better on Microsoft’s os but additional tweaks and hacks might close the gab.
